Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.

Story

In May 2022, our lives changed forever when my dad was unexpectedly diagnosed with a brain tumour just two weeks after his 59th birthday. He was immediately offered brain surgery to determine the type of tumour and remove as much as possible. Sadly, the surgeons could not remove it all and further chemotherapy and radiotherapy were needed. Throughout it all, Dad was a hero; he faced every challenge with courage and never lost hope.

During his treatments, we made the most of the family time, going on holiday to the Lake District and celebrating his 60th birthday with a party surrounded by all his friends and family. But in July, we received the devastating news that the treatment had been unsuccessful and there were no further available treatments. From this point, Dad’s condition deteriorated quickly. After enjoying one last family trip he was then admitted to the hospital in early September 2023. He sadly passed away on the 16th of September, listening to “Sweet Caroline” with me, my mum, and my sister by his side.

Dad always wanted us to make memories as a family and now, looking back, we are so grateful for that. Even though he is no longer with us, we laugh and cry reminiscing about all the wonderful moments we’ve shared.

Dad, Graham, Unc, GB and Pappa Bear – is irreplaceable, and without him, our lives will never be the same. By running the London Marathon I hope to make our Dad proud and raise money for Brain Tumour Research.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. This is unacceptable!

I am fundraising for Brain Tumour Research as they are the only national charity dedicated to funding long-term, sustainable research in the UK. Please help me fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.
