Alex's fundraiser for Amyloidosis UK

Colchester Half Marathon 2025 · 16 March 2025 ·
My Dad was diagnosed with Amyloidosis 8 years ago and to be honest , at the time, we had never heard of it or knew how serious it could be. This is a rare condition caused by abnormal deposits and accumulation of amyloid protein in body organs and systems which could lead to their failure.
This was an anxious time for our family, not knowing how it would affect my Dad or what the treatment would be. There is no cure for this condition however there are treatments that can control its development and alleviate the symptoms.
Research continues to develop more effective treatment and hopefully one day this will lead to a cure.
Luckily the type of Amyloidosis my Dad has means that it should not spread any further than his lungs but other sufferers are not so lucky. This is why I have decided to run the Colchester half marathon in March to raise awareness for this potentially life limiting condition and hopefully raise some money for this worthwhile cause in the process.
