Story

I have decided to raise money for Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (formally Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)), which is very important to me and those close to me.

You may or may not know my fiancé, Nancy, has Type 1 diabetes, and was diagnosed when she was 5 years old, so has lived with it her entire life. Although she is a trooper at dealing with it, some days can be much harder, especially when you have to factor in you have to do the work of your own pancreas, by checking blood sugar and injecting with insulin regularly. There is currently no cure for it, but there have been lots of breakthroughs recently such as continuous glucose monitors attached to the body which read blood sugar consistently, seeing the reading direct from your phone, which means gone are the days of having to do a finger prick blood test. There is also the new artificial pancreas, which also does the reading of blood glucose and injecting of insulin for you. These were not round 20 years ago, which shows how far it has come already.
