I’m helping raise money for Children With Hair Loss after learning about the impact alopecia has had on my Jiu-Jitsu coach’s daughter, Sophia. Reading her story made me more aware of what children and families facing hair loss can go through.

Sophia’s story, shared by her father:

“In February 2022, our oldest daughter Sophia, who was eight years old at the time, began to lose her hair. It started as a quarter-size circle on the back of her head. By March, she was completely bald and a few months later, her eyebrows, eyelashes and body hair all fell out too.

Our beautiful baby girl wore a hat every day to hide her head from kids at school and church. As the days got hotter, she continued to wear her winter knit hat because it had become her safety in public.

While researching wig options for Sophia, we met Laura Fox at Foxy Hair Alternatives who introduced us to Children With Hair Loss. CWHL sent Sophia her first wig and care kit a few days later.

By the Grace of God, Sophia has been able to keep a positive mindset and does not let her hair loss define her. Her courage and boldness to deal with people staring at her or asking her strange questions about her hair loss is nothing short of amazing.

CWHL provides a new wig and kit every year, free of charge, to recipients until age 21. The wig packages provided by CWHL cost their charity approximately $1,500-$2,000. Their motto is “Covering young heads to heal young hearts.”

Our goal is to raise enough money to cover 5 heads, one for each year Sophia has been living boldly with alopecia.”
