Alex's fundraiser for Rowcroft Hospice

Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025 · 12 October 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
Did you know there is a direct relation between the loss of a parent at a young age and getting into long distance running? I didn’t until recently which put a lot into perspective for me.
Today marked the very start of my training for running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London in October. You may ask why would you want to put yourself through a half marathon? So I'll explain it.
In June 2023 I lost my dad to cancer and when the time came for him to be laid to rest, he was taken to a Rowcroft Hospice in Devon.
When you're growing up, you never really consider the process the worst happens to your parents, but when he was taken to Rowcroft and laid to rest, the support provided for my family, my sisters, my mom and myself when were going through probably the harder time in our lives was impeccable.
This made me think 18 months later, how could I give back? Towards the end of last year I began to really struggle with the reality of losing my Dad and I turned to running as an outlet and have gradually learnt to love it. Never in my life did I think I'd be up to running a marathon, but it turns out I am so why not give back to those who were there in my hardest moments.
So I'm going to be raising money for Rowcroft Hospice on the lead up to this half marathon. So yeah, I guess this is the start of the journey. If you can give anything, donate it would much appreciated, let’s see where we can get to.
Thanks for your time.
