Story
Short read:
Hi, I'm Alex (holding the blue flag) – one of the Court Moor CCF cadets in year 10. Not many schools are lucky to have CCF cadets and we’re wanting to grow ours so that lots of other kids from Court Moor can gain skills and experiences in leadership and team working. So I’ve decided to cycle from Dieppe to Paris (150miles) to raise money for FCMS so that they can support our growth. All costs have already been paid for privately so your donation will go directly to benefit the cadets. Please take a minute to support me by donating. Thank you!!!!!!!

Longer read:
For some time now, under the leadership of Cpt. Cumner, those of us who are CCF cadets at Court Moor have been travelling to Ash Manor School every Monday (and some weekends) to join in their training sessions. We’ve been incredibly lucky to be able to use their equipment and facilities for our training – but it’s time for Court Moor’s cadets to stand on our own.
We start in year 9 and go through to year 11. We train hard and gain valuable life skills – from leadership and teamwork to communication and service in the community. We’ve gone on night patrols, learned survival and navigation skills. It’s tough but a lot of fun too - even when we've slept under tarpaulins in sub-zero temperatures!
A huge milestone came this April when we received our own school standard from Hart District Council - we even got to parade it in Fleet as part of the 80th anniversary of VE Day. To build on that, I want to help school to help us and lots of other kids wanting to join, train and develop some of the Court Moor values.
Cadets has given me so many adventures and opportunities I wouldn’t have had anywhere else. Now, I want to give something back.
So, this May half term (straight after another cadet camp sleeping under bashas in Kent!) I’m taking on a big challenge by cycling 240km (150miles) from Dieppe to Paris along the Avenue Verte. I’m cycling with family members and set off on the Monday and aim to arrive in Paris by Friday.
Every penny I raise will go directly to support cadets at Court Moor. All my own costs are covered – your donation will help us buy equipment to keep growing, training, and offering life-changing experiences to future cadets.
Even if you don’t have a child in cadets, I hope you’ll take a moment to support me and the cadets I'm doing this for, and sponsor my ride. It truly makes a difference.
Thank you so much for your support.
– Alex
