Story
Lots of you know that I have been a Trustee for Peterborough Women's Aid for the past 4 years. It is a charity very close to my heart as it protects, supports and empowers women and children on their journey to realise their true value and full potential away from domestic abuse.
Peterborough Women's Aid has a number of incredible projects from outreach, education in schools, support for male victims, Lithuanian victims and South Asian victims. It works very closely with the Peterborough community.
But the area I am raising money for is the Refuge itself. The Refuge is in a secure location and the women and children who to come to stay in the Refuge arrive with nothing. In almost all cases, these women have escaped in the middle of the night with their children and have not been able to bring any personal possessions. No food, no toiletries, no clothes, no toys for the children, just the clothes on their backs. We provide them with all the essentials they need in order to be comfortable during their stay whilst we support them with the long and difficult journey to build a new life for themselves and their children.
I will be swimming 2,000 metres in the harbour of Copenhagen round the Christiansborg Palace to raise money for these women and children. Oh...and I'll be swimming 8 months pregnant :-) Wish me luck!!
