Story
I lost my Dad, Warren, to terminal cancer/pneumonia on April 6th 2025. In his final few days we engaged the lovely nurses/carers at the Leckhampton Court Hospice in Gloucester, utilising the hospice at home service, and I cannot adequately describe how much warmth and compassion I felt from the senior nurse Cathy and the carers Clare and Siobhan.
In such a short space of time I felt a real connection with them and I was in awe at how lovely and caring they were in such challenging circumstances.
I knew I wanted to run the London marathon in memory of my Dad when he eventually passed and was considering the usual charities like Cancer Research or Macmillan, but from my brief interaction with the staff from the Sue Ryder hospice my mind was made up immediately.
I am honoured to be awarded a place at the 2026 London Marathon to fundraise for such a worthy cause.
Sue Ryder supports people through the most difficult times of their lives.
For over 65 years, their doctors, nurses and carers have given people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can.
It will cost Sue Ryder around £48m to run their healthcare services next year. They expect to receive £30.4m in statutory funding, so will need to raise £17.3m through donations or funds raised by people like me.
