Story
On 12th June, we – Jamie, Alex, Richard and Stephen – will be taking in a demanding golf marathon at Stourbridge Golf Club, completing an incredible 72 holes in a single day. This challenge is not just about endurance or love of the game; it’s about raising awareness and vital funds for Motor Neuron Disease (MND), a condition that is devastating countless lives.
Motor Neuron Disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects the brain and nerves, gradually stopping muscles from working. Over time, it robs people of their ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe. There is currently no cure, and the impact on individuals and their families is profound, both physically and emotionally.
Our motivation for supporting this cause is deeply personal and rooted in our shared background in rugby. The rugby community has been hit particularly hard in recent years, with several former professionals being diagnosed with MND. Seeing strong, resilient athletes – people who once performed at the highest level – face such a cruel illness has brought the reality of this disease closer to home.
Figures like Rob Burrow and Doddie Weir have shown immense courage in raising awareness despite their diagnoses, inspiring millions through their determination and honesty. More recently, the news surrounding Lewis Moody has further highlighted how this disease is continuing to affect members of the rugby world we admire and respect. Their stories are a powerful reminder that MND does not discriminate and that more needs to be done to support those affected.
By taking on this 72-hole challenge, we hope to contribute in some small way to the fight against MND. The funds raised will go towards supporting research into treatments and, ultimately, a cure, as well as providing care and support for individuals and families living with the disease.
This will be a physically and mentally demanding day, but it pales in comparison to the daily challenges faced by those living with MND. We are committed to pushing ourselves to the limit to make a difference, and we would be incredibly grateful for any support you can offer.
Together, we can help raise awareness, fund critical research, and support those affected by this devastating disease.
