Story
Hi everyone! I'm running the London Marathon and have chosen to support Scottish Refugee Council.
Training for a marathon is supposed to be a challenge; but to be honest, it is a real privilege. I'm so lucky to be able to do it, and to have the time and space to get fit enough to complete it. Those that have had to flee from harm and to start a life in a new country have real challenges to overcome.
Scottish Refugee Council are a charity who support people to rebuild their lives, advocate for fair and compassionate policies and offer vital advice and services to those who have had no option but to flee their homes from danger, conflict or persecution in search of safety, hope and dignity in Scotland.
Last year, Scottish Refugee Council supported over 500 people facing homelessness and extreme poverty, helping them to access mental health services, get legal advice and find food and clothing.
Contributions will ensure that they can continue to support people through all stages of the complex asylum process and stand up for their rights.
In the face of a political and media landscape that increasingly dehumanises refugees and migrants the need for support has never been greater – I feel passionately that everyone seeking safety should receive a warm and positive welcome from all sections of society, and want to use my marathon to promote that message alongside raising funding for vital support services.
I would hugely appreciate it if you would consider donating to my page and support me to make a positive difference to the lives who of people who need all the support they can get right now.
Your donation – no matter how big or small - will support those seeking asylum as they rebuild their lives in Scotland.
Thank you so much for your support!
