Alex's niche world record attempt for Royal Papworth Hospital Charity

Stevenage Marathon · 20 October 2024
In July 2021 the wonderful folk at the Royal Papworth Hospital helped me through one of the most challenging periods of my life when I underwent open heart surgery to replace a defective heart valve.
On 20 October I shall take on the Stevenage Marathon and attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon by somebody with an artificial heart valve, which currently stands at 3:51. The dream is to eventually take the record under 3 hours.
In just over three years I have gone from fearing I may not see my daughters grow up, to running 20 miles on a Sunday morning to get some peace and quiet! In gratitude for the extra chance at life they have given me, I am raising money to help support the hospital's fantastic staff and the life changing work they do.
Royal Papworth Charity exists to support the ground-breaking work of Royal Papworth Hospital. With increasing pressures on the NHS, the Charity plays a vital role in ensuring that the Hospital continues to provide the highest standards of care by investing in staff development, improving the Hospital environment for their patients and supporting research into new ways of treating heart and lung disease.
