Story
So... I've decided to spend November doing something a bit daft - Swimming 50km. Yep, while most people are going for a 10km run or growing a beard this month, I thought "Why make life easy?"
I'm doing it to raise money for Above & Beyond a charity that helped look after me and my wife Kirsty when life threw us a curveball.
In the summer of 2023 Kirsty was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then she's faced more treatments, needles and hospital appointments than anyone should have to. Chemo, Immunotherapy, Radiotherapy, surgeries, you name it. Through it all she's handled everything with the strength and grit that anyone who knows her would expect.
Above & Beyond were there for both of us. They supported Kirsty through her treatment, invited her to wellbeing and pamper days, checked in for a coffee and even let me tag along for one of the pamper sessions (for my first ever massage). When everything is cancer, hospital visits and treatment plans, Above & Beyond offered support and a touch of normality. They genuinely made a difference, not just to Kirsty's recovery but to how we got through it together.
Above & Beyond are a small local Bedfordshire charity who rely on the generosity of its supporters to continue to provide its personal and much needed services.
So, this swim's for them and for everyone who might need that same care and kindness in the future.
If you fancy supporting me.... supporting them, please donate a little (or a lot). Every length I swim is a small thank you to the people who go above and beyond for families like ours.
And if nothing else, you can enjoy imagining me swearing my way through 50km of self inflicted nonsense, all in the name of a good cause.
