In October 2024 we (Alex and Keira) will leave for an 18-day expedition to climb to Everest Basecamp with the charity 2Wish Cymru. 

We are both looking to raise as much awareness and funds as possible for 2Wish as they have either supported ourselves or family members in different circumstances. 

In January 2019, Keira’s daughter Mali died. 2Wish were there right from the start to support the whole family; providing immediate bereavement support, organising counselling and generally supporting in lots of other ways. In 2022, Keira climbed Mt Kilimanjaro with 2Wish, in memory of Mali and to raise money for the charity. Keira’s relationship with the charity remains strong and it’s important to her to keep supporting the wonderful work they do.  

Then on 15th July 2022, Alex’s family experienced a significant loss in the death of her cousin Jess at the very young age of 26. Jess was an extremely fun-loving character, and since her death, it has become abundantly clear just how popular and well-thought of she was. Lots of friends have hosted fundraising events in Jess’s name since she passed away, and in the name of various charities, however, 2Wish stepped in to support Jess’s nearest and dearest shortly after her death and the charity remains close to the family’s heart.  

The trek to Everest Basecamp will be a challenge both physically and mentally for the both of us - leaving our families behind, both with young children depending on us won’t be easy – we’re definitely going to need some extra space for the tissues (and not just for the loos along the way)! Despite the hardships we will face, we both feel confident in the challenge ahead and know that the rewards of this trip will be worth it; in terms of personal accomplishment, but more importantly, the funds and awareness raised for this amazing charity.

Any donation, however much, will be so gratefully received and will make a huge difference to 2Wish, who rely mainly on fundraising to continue doing the remarkable work they do. We have experienced firsthand, just how important 2Wish’s support is when the unimaginable happens to a family. No family should ever be left alone to navigate the loss of a child or young person. Supporting 2Wish here in Wales hopefully means that will never be the case for another family.  

We are both fully self-funding the trip, including the expedition itself, flights, kit etc so every penny of the money raised will go directly to the charity. We have a £1,500 per person fundraising target and your help towards that will be hugely appreciated.
