Story
My Father in law, Sean, was set to run the Cambridge half marathon this year, but he won't be able to. During his training for the event, he joined my son to run Milton Junior Parkrun, and suffered a sudden cardiac arrest afterwards.
Fortunately, this couldn't have happened in a better place, because the Parkrun team there had already fundraised for a defibrillator and had it on hand. They and the people who came to his aid managed to restart his heart within 10 minutes of the sudden cardiac arrest. This undoubtedly saved his life and his brain and he eventually made a full recovery.
I will be running the half marathon in his place and in the spirit of passing on kindness, I'd like to raise money to buy another defibrillator somewhere else, so that it too might save a life.
Every year, over 30,000 people in the UK suffer from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) outside of a hospital environment. With immediate CPR and access to a defibrillator within the first few minutes, the chances of survival can double or even triple.
AEDdonate's mission is to ensure that defibrillators are readily available in every community. £1800 will buy and maintain one 24/7 defibrillator, and £3600 will provide 2!
