Story
Hello there!
I am hoping to raise £1,000 for the Thomas Pocklington Trust which aims to provide support for people who are visually impaired. As part of this, I will be entering the Manchester Hyrox on Saturday 30th January.
In March 2020, just before Covid hit, my Mum suffered a stroke which left her visually impaired with 50% vision in each eye. This was a very difficult time for her compounded by not being able to go through the usual rehabilitation for stroke survivors due to the huge strain on the NHS at the time.
In the past 6 years, she has not let that event define her and I could not be prouder of my Mum. She continues to work as a Deputy District Judge, navigating the railways to sit across the country. She also volunteers at a local school (where she's also a Governor) helping children learn to read.
Most importantly, she volunteers at the Thomas Pocklington Trust. Through her work there, she recommends ways for various public spaces to improve their facilities for visually impaired people. She focuses particularly on train stations as she knows first hand how difficult and intimidating it can be for the visually impaired community to access these.
My mum is an inspiration to me. Understandably, she has her tough days due to the independence the stroke took from her but the resilience and strength she shows on a daily basis to continue to help others and make their lives better is a shining light and an example that I always strive to follow.
Any donation would be hugely appreciated by myself and the Thomas Pocklington Trust. The money raised will go to continuing to improve the facilities across the Derbyshire County for visually impaired people.
I will be donating to the fundraising and to ensure I push myself to the max, I will double my donation if I don't complete the race in under 1 hour 30 minutes. I have done 2 Hyrox previously, the first in 1 hour 47 minutes and the second in 1 hour 38 minutes so I feel sub 1:30 is achievable. For anyone unsure of what the race involves, you can watch this very short video. The 100 wall balls at the end are what really kills you! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN-n8t8d2bA
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page and I hope you have a great day!
