In memory of John Ridyard

London to Brighton Off Road 2025 · 20 September 2025 ·

Join thousands of other riders taking on Europe’s largest charity mountain bike event in 2025. Conquer 61 miles of superb views, tough climbs and technical terrain with BHF. With every pedal, you’ll be powering lifesaving research.

Story

My wife (Gem) lost her dad John - the man with the biggest heart - the chatty one. He had a rare gift of making everyone feel seen and valued, and his warmth filled every room he walked in. Everything changed the day he died. Supporting the BHF is our way of supporting him. Every mile I ride, and every donation made carries his spirit forward. If we can help even one family avoid the pain we’ve felt, then that’s magic enough.

We did it. Rider number 0482, the #1 fundraiser for the 2025 event with over £2200 donated by more than 100 people! I rode 65.1 miles in 5 hours and 52 minutes, climbing 3462 feet off road.

--- 2025 ---

Alex is raising money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of his wife's wonderful dad, John Ridyard, who we heartbreakingly lost 6 years ago to a sudden cardiac arrest at just 54 years old.

We will never be able to bring her dad back, but if we can help even one family avoid the pain we’ve felt, then that’s magic enough. Every donation — big or small — means the world and will help fund vital research that could save lives.

In 2026 I will again be riding in the London to Brighton Off Road for this same cause. Please support me in helping raise vital funds to power lifesaving research into heart and circulatory diseases.
