Story
Every 6 minutes in the UK, someone hears that they will lose their sight.
In that moment, they face two profound questions: Can this be stopped? and How do I live my life?
Fight for Sight funds researchers to better understand, diagnose, prevent and treat vision loss. It also funds projects and services that are creating a more inclusive world for blind and vision-impaired people.
At Barke Opticians, we see first-hand the impact that sight loss can have on individuals and their families. Every day, we meet patients who are facing changes to their vision and the challenges that can bring. The work that Fight for Sight supports is incredibly important to us because it helps drive advances in research, treatment and support services that can make a real difference to people's lives.
As eye care professionals, we are passionate about protecting sight and helping people maintain their independence and quality of life. Fight for Sight's mission closely aligns with our own values, and we are proud to support the vital work they do.
Alex's Marathon Challenge
This year, Alex will be taking on the challenge of running the London marathon solo in support of Fight for Sight. In 2026, Alex participated as a guide runner, supporting a visually impaired runner throughout the event. The experience was both inspiring and motivating, giving him a greater appreciation of the challenges faced by those living with sight loss.
Having witnessed the impact that determination, support and inclusivity can have, Alex was inspired to return this year and take on the London marathon himself. His goal is not only to complete the challenge but also to raise as much money as possible for Fight for Sight, helping to fund life-changing research and support services for those affected by vision loss.
Save Sight. Change Lives.
