Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.
On March 25th 2020, my life changed forever. I had a bad motorbike accident that broke my neck and back and caused a spinal injury. This left me with a rare condition called Brown Sequard Syndrome which affects movement on one side of the body and sensation on the other. For me this meant I lost the use of my left arm, my left leg was severely weakened and I lost the sensation on the right side of my body.
Immediately post injury, as can be seen below, I was unable to walk or do anything independently, however thankfully after 4 long months at Sheffield Spinal Unit I was able to start learning to walk again and do things for myself, although I still had a long way to go.

After spending 4 months in hospital, and then a year at home in a very dark place, wondering what my future would hold, I eventually decided to get in touch with the Matt Hampson Foundation.
The Matt Hampson Foundation provides support and inspiration to young people following a life-changing injury, through its Get Busy Living centre in Leicestershire.
The centre provides expert physiotherapy, specialist personal training, funded activity days, support, mentoring and advice to people suffering after a life-changing injury through sport. It's a unique facility which opened its doors in 2018 and is the brainchild of founder and former England and Leicester Tigers rugby player Matt Hampson, who himself experienced a life-changing injury in 2005 leaving him paralysed from the neck down, aged just 20.
Building a sense of community is central to the Matt Hampson Foundation. In the aftermath of an incident which leads to a life-changing injury most people and their families feel isolated with an overwhelming sense of loss for what has been taken away from them. So with the centre comes a sharing of knowledge and experience from others who have been on a similar journey which then inspires beneficiaries to ‘get busy living’ again.

Since working with them, their remarkable team have helped me more than I could ever explain and at the end of 2024, I felt overwhelmed when they presented me with their Outstanding Dedication Award. Therefore while continuing my rehab with them, I am also putting my energy into helping the Foundation to support others after their life-changing injuries, and I thought this would be a great way to start.
In April, I am taking on the London Landmarks Half-Marathon with the goal of not just completing it but also raising as much money as I can for the foundation along the way. Any donation, great or small, would be gratefully received and go towards Matt’s goal of supporting more young people just when they need it most.
