Alex - London Marathon 2024

London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
I got the running bug when I started training for the Great North Run in 2023. Training was going well until I started to feel sick and fatigued, particularly in mornings, with frequent stomach cramps. Although I’d started my running alone, I crossed the finish line with a little somebody inside. No I was not pregnant, I had indeed got a stomach parasite.
Now we are back for more in 2024, double the distance, hopefully half the stomach infections, and less shivering on the finish line.
I have gained a charity place in the London Marathon 2024 with Investec and I want to raise awareness and money for a great charity on behalf of my friend, Tom.
The Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) is the only charity in the UK that is there throughout the whole lifespan of somebody who has Down’s syndrome, from before birth, through to old age, and everything in between. Its aim is to enable people who have Down’s syndrome to live full and rewarding lives, and they have been going for more than 50 years.
Its Information Services are the beating heart of the Down’s Syndrome Association. Its confidential Helpline receives more than 10,000 calls each year and its team of specialist advisers and Information Officers can offer advice about any aspect of living with Down’s syndrome. They also provide specialist advice through people like its Speech and Language Therapist, Social Care Advisor and Welfare and Benefits Advisor.
It’s a privilege to be taking part in such a formidable race, and I’m very proud to be running for such a worthy cause. I’d be hugely grateful for any support you can give, thank you.
