Alex Wingate is fundraising for The Wingate Centre.

On 14th October I’ll be flying out to Punta Del Este, Uruguay to compete in Leg 2 of the Clipper Round the World 2023/24 Race. I will be sailing 4,200 miles across the South Atlantic Ocean to Cape Town, South Africa and arriving there (hopefully still on the boat and in one piece!) after approximately 2 ½ weeks. I’ll be joining 20 other crew as part of the ‘Our Isles and Oceans’ team and we’ll be sailing 24/7 in 3 watches on our 70-foot yacht. Over the course of this year I have completed 4 fairly gruelling weeks of training and now all that’s left is the race and to raise money for charity!

I am covering all my own costs for this adventure so I'd really appreciate it if you could be as generous as possible as all the funds will go directly to The Wingate Centre, a charity based in Nantwich, Cheshire that my father was instrumental in establishing 35 years ago.

The Wingate Centre supports children and young adults with special education needs and disabilities through its recreational and residential facilities.

Set within the beautiful countryside of rural Nantwich, Cheshire; The Wingate Centre believes that everyone should have equal access to opportunities that improve their quality of life and wellbeing, regardless of ability. They aim to be a centre of excellence for inclusive residential, sport and recreational facilities that allow those with SEND to be active, improve their health, their mental wellbeing and to grow in confidence. Supporting over 500 individuals each year through their residential and recreational facilities.
