My dad , Mark , was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in April. Since his diagnosis my dad, my mam and myself have received a lot of support from the MND Association and from the MND team at James Cook Hospital. I started running in the summer and I am taking part in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in May 2026 and the Great North Run in Sept 2026. I really want to raise £1000 for the MND Association. My dad and other people with MND need a lot of help, support and equipment. I really want to give back to the MND Association and to support my dad.

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.

MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone, and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.

Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life.
