I entered the ballot for the London marathon at a friends insistence and low and behold we both got places! Training together has been so great, the support we have been able to give each other through illness and injury has been invaluable. We have no set time in mind just want to enjoy the day and finish in one piece.

But it got me thinking about how we all need support at some time in our lives for ourselves, our families and our friends and I have decided to use this fantastic opportunity of running the London Marathon to raise money for Alzheimer's Society.

As a family we have lost my beautiful mum and grandma to dementia as well as beloved aunts and uncles. It is heartbreaking to see loved ones begin to struggle with everyday life and slowly fade away. Alzheimer's Society gives a wide range of support to people living with dementia and their families, providing information, companionship and campaiging as well as research into all forms of dementia, working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
