Story

On 12 April 2026, I will be taking on a huge challenge of running London Landmarks Half Marathon for Alzheimer’s Society 🏃🏻‍♀️

This is sadly a very personal cause as dementia has ripped a hole through our lives for the last four years 💔

As you may know, 2022-24 was a very difficult period for our family. Not only did my sister pass away, but in autumn 2023 both my mum and my dad were diagnosed as having the same diagnosis - Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.

You read that right…both parents, same time, same dual diagnosis 💔

It’s been a long hard road with lots of tears shed while we navigated our way through diagnosis for both mum and dad. Then trying to decide what interventions and care would keep them both safe, which has been ever changing as things have progressed.

Alzheimer’s and dementia are sadly progressive. In my parents case, it has been relatively quick. Both mum and dad are now in nursing care and, after 2 years and 3 months apart, I’ve been able to reunite them and they can see each other! 🥹 They are both doing as well as they are able and are cared for by some remarkable people.

Our family is incredibly grateful for the friends, family and professionals who have supported us along the way. This includes the Alzheimer’s Society who gave us advice and support, and also conduct research into dementia. I pray new treatment come along that means no one has to go through what our family has gone through.

So I’m asking you please to support our little family again one more time as I take on the London Landmarks Half Marathon, and hopefully be able to give something back to Alzheimer’s Society so they can carry on the amazing work they do!
