Why I’m Taking on Everest Base Camp?

Cancer has affected my life in ways I will never forget.

During the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, my granny was diagnosed with a stage 4 brain tumour. By the time doctors discovered it, it was already too late. When we were told the news, our world completely shattered. We were given just three precious months with her.

Because of the restrictions at the time, travelling to see her was incredibly difficult. But I knew I had to try. Thankfully, I managed to get there and spend a week with her. Being able to hug her, sit with her and spend those final moments together meant everything — even though I knew in my heart it would be the last time. Saying goodbye to someone you love like that is something that stays with you forever.

Since losing my granny, cancer has continued to touch the lives of people around me. I’ve seen family members, friends and loved ones face their own battles with cancer. Some have thankfully won their fight, but heartbreakingly many others have not.

Through so many of those journeys, one organisation has been there providing support, guidance and comfort when people needed it most — Macmillan Cancer Support.

The work they do for people living with cancer and for their families is incredible, and I truly believe they deserve even more recognition and support for the difference they make in people’s lives.

That’s why this year I’m taking on my biggest challenge yet.

In October 2026, I will be trekking to Everest Base Camp, inspired by the mountains where I train in the Mourne Mountains, to raise money for Macmillan.

This challenge is about more than reaching a destination. It’s about honouring my granny, supporting those currently fighting cancer, and helping families who are going through some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help Macmillan continue their vital work supporting people living with cancer and the loved ones beside them.
