Jon's Story

Cancer touches everyone's lives in some way, and I have personally lost two dear friends to this relentless disease. One of those friends, Jonathan Walters, passed away in the summer of 2021. Jon's journey with cancer and the incredible care he received at Velindre Cancer Centre deeply moved me. In 2017, I hosted a Velindre fundraising Quiz Night with Rhod Gilbert as Quiz Master. Jon opened the event, sharing his story and the exceptional support he experienced at Velindre. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as he spoke about the dedicated and compassionate staff who made a significant difference in his life.

Danielle’s Story

In May 2013, I lost one of my closest childhood friends, Danielle. She was more than just a friend; she was like a sister to me. We spent countless hours together, from walking her dog to making up dance routines and causing havoc as room buddies on trips. We even reached the National Eisteddfod one year with a group we formed in school. Danielle faced her diagnosis of breast cancer with unimaginable strength and grace, never once questioning or complaining. The last time I saw her, she threw a party for her closest friends and family. We reminisced, laughed, cried, and hugged—a lot. Her courage and positivity continue to inspire me.

In memory of Jon and Danielle, I am taking on the Vietnam Trek 2025 to raise funds for Velindre, the Hospital of Hope. Velindre has been providing specialist treatment and supportive care to cancer patients and their families for over 65 years. The money raised for Velindre Charity supports groundbreaking research and clinical trials, cutting-edge treatments, specialist nurses, support services, therapies, and essential equipment—beyond what the NHS provides. Donations make a significant impact on the lives of patients and their families, offering hope for the future.
