Alexandra 's fundraiser for The Haven Wolverhampton

Bake sale · 13 February 2024
I'm fundraising for The Haven Wolverhampton because home should be a safe place for children. And for so many, it's the place they fear the most.
I spent my first years as a child witnessing physical and emotional abuse and was subjected to emotional abuse myself. These experiences never leave you - they affect you into your teens, adulthood and beyond, permeating every aspect of your life, whether consciously or unconsciously.
And the problem is horrifically common. In fact, 1 in 5 children will be exposed to domestic abuse in their early years. Many of these children will live their lives in fear, day in and day out. That's where vital services like The Haven Wolverhampton come in.
The Haven Wolverhampton supports children and women who are vulnerable to domestic violence, abuse, and homelessness by providing safe, emergency accommodation and community-based support services.
Families will often need to leave with so little short notice that all they can bring are the clothes on their backs. The charity is in desperate need of new bedding to support women and children who often flee to them in the middle of the night, tired, scared and in dire need of help.
Being able to provide a comfy bed when they arrive can play a vital role in helping them to feel welcomed and encouraging women and children to stay where they can be safe and free from the trauma of abuse. And children get to pick their own bedding - a small but vital choice when their world has been rocked by something so traumatic.
If any RSK Group colleagues are in the Helsby office Tuesday 13th, please pop by the canteen for a bake sale, organised by the wonderful Lisa Smith and Kai Huthwaite. And look out for an online quiz event we'll be launching very soon!
Thank you so much.
