Alex’s fundraiser for Friends of Woodlands Meed

Alex Pilbeam is raising money for Friends of Woodlands Meed

The Altra Brighton Half Marathon 2026 · 1 March 2026 ·

We are a small local charity raising funds to provide important support to children with various learning, social, physical and communication disabilities within Mid Sussex. Woodlands Meed's aim is to help each child find their place and confidence within school, the wider community and beyond.

Story

I’m attempting to break the 1 hour 30 barrier for the half marathon! I was going to attempt this race last year before I broke my leg in December and only got back to slow running in April 2025. I’ve built myself back up and I’m ready for a big challenge.

In the coming months I will be raising money for "Friends of Woodlands Meed College" through a variety of running events. The last and most important of which is the "Altra Brighton Half Marathon" on March 1, 2026.

My goal is to rasie as much money as possible for the school to go towards Reading Pens that aid the additional needs students in their learning. These pens are invaluable for students with dyslexia, enabling them to read and fully comprehend text, even during exams. Your money will make a meaningful difference to the students lives.

My mother, Cathy Pilbeam, is a long standing teacher at the school and knows how much this equipment is desperately needed within the school. We both thought that using this platform as a way to raise money would greatly benefit the school and the students who attend.

As mentioned, I have a few races planned in the lead up to Brighton Half Marathon.

On October 19th I will be running the "AJ Bell Great South Run".

On November 16th I will be running "Brighton 10K". My big aim for this is sub 41 minutes.

On March 1st I will finally do Brighton Half Marathon.

My big goal for the half marathon is to run it in Sub 1:30. This will be a massive challenge and I will have to push myself past what I think is currently possible.

I will post training updates and race photos to this page through my journey to this target.

Any and all donations, big or small are massively appreciated by myself and the school.
