Story

Running the Great North Run means a lot to me. I’ve been hearing people talk about it ever since I moved up to Newcastle in 2024, and it always seemed like something out of reach, but this year I’ve decided to take it on — not just as a personal challenge, but as an opportunity to support a cause that truly matters.

When I was choosing a charity, I thought about what would feel meaningful and as my Dad has been supporter for nearly 15 years it felt like a natural choice to do it for Rainbows. They are a charity that cares for hundreds of families every year who have a baby, child or young person with a serious or terminal illness, meaning their lives will be shorter than most. Rainbows provide specialist care and emotional support for these children and their loved ones, helping them enjoy their time together as a family for as long as they have — providing the kind of support that makes a real difference in what many would consider their darkest hours.

Choosing to run for Rainbows feels like a way to do my part for a charity that is almost entirely dependent on people like you and me to provide the funds that keep their services going, supporting families across the East Midlands when they need it most. By donating, you will be helping to support babies, children, young people and their families living with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.

Taking on the Great North Run is no small challenge, but knowing I’m doing it for such a great charity will keep me going every step of the way.

Any support, whether through donations or simply sharing this page, would mean a huge amount — not just to me, but to the children and families that Rainbows supports every day. Please help ensure every child, young person and family can depend on Rainbows when they need them the most.
