David Johnson is raising money for Alzheimer's Society

Newport Marathon 2026 · 19 April 2026 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Hi

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page for Alzheimer's Society.

On Sunday 19th April 2026, I will be taking on the challenge of running the Newport Marathon. Since entering the race, I have sadly lost two very close and much loved friends whom I had known for almost 40 and 50 years respectively. I have therefore decided to try to raise some much needed funds for charities chosen as being the most relevant by their next of kin.

Although I still run regularly, taking on the classic 26.2 mile distance at the age of 71 presents a very different and significantly more demanding challenge to what I am used to these days. As such, I will need all help available to get me over the finish line. I have set myself a target of under 5 hours to finish the race but to achieve that I will need to put in the hard work and the miles during the dark, cold winter weeks ahead. By making a donation, you will not only be supporting a very worthwhile charity; you will also be providing vital motivation to get this pensioner to the start line in good shape on 19th April and then to the finish line.

The Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity, providing help to those living with dementia today and offering hope for the future through campaigning and funding research. Every pound raised helps fund vital support and drives change for everyone affected by the condition, which affects nearly a million people in the UK.

Thank you once again for your support.
