Story
Hi
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page for Salvation Army UK.
On Sunday 19th April 2026, I will be taking on the challenge of running the Newport Marathon. Since entering the race, I have sadly lost two very close and much loved friends whom I had known for almost 40 and 50 years respectively. I have therefore decided to try to raise some much needed funds for charities chosen as being the most relevant by their next of kin.
Although I still run regularly, taking on the classic 26.2 mile distance at the age of 71 presents a very different and significantly more demanding challenge to what I am used to these days. As such, I will need all help available to get me over the finish line. I have set myself a target of under 5 hours to finish the race but to achieve that I will need to put in the hard work and the miles during the dark, cold winter weeks ahead. By making a donation, you will not only be supporting a very worthwhile charity; you will also be providing vital motivation to get this pensioner to the start line in good shape on 19th April and then to the finish line.
The Salvation Army UK helps anyone in need, regardless of background, by providing practical support for the vulnerable, including the homeless, families in poverty, victims of modern slavery, people with addiction, lonely older people, and those facing debt or unemployment, through services like food banks, shelters, advice, and community centres, aiming to fight social inequality and injustice. Services are offered to all who need them, without judgement or discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.
Thank you once again for your support.
Dave
