Story

Hello there,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In my job as a social worker I have worked with children and their families who have needed the support of Zoe’s Place and feel very passionately about fundraising for such an important service in our community.

Zoë's Place provides 24-hour palliative, respite and end-of-life care to infants aged 0-5 years with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. It is a real life line to local families and the hospice relies on fundraising events and all the donations - no matter what the amount - as it simply could not run without them.

Having taken part in several fundraising events for Zoe's Place, this challenge seemed particularly fitting in memory of my Dad, who passed away very unexpectedly at the beginning of October last year.

Dad was a prolific fundraiser and a very keen supporter of the hospice. It held a very special place in his heart, especially when they cared for the daughter of one of his dear friends. Dad also loved walking and completed many treks to include Everest Base Camp, Coast to Coast, The West Highland Way, The Pennines, The Peak District, Hadrian's Wall, The Ulster Way, The Lynn Valley Link, The Costwold Way, The Beara Peninsula & Lough Hyne….to name but a few!

This challenge combines both of his passions of walking and fundraising, so I will be joining #TeamZoes on their Sahara Trek March 2026. This adventure will see me trek 50km across the Saharan Desert in Morocco over 4 days.

We will have two full days and two half days trekking across ancient dried up river beds, sand dunes and vast sun-baked plains. The terrain is a mixture of hard, flat sundried plains, dried up ancient riverbeds, wide sandy dune fields and hard rocky outcrops. Temperatures pose a specific challenge with temperatures historically reaching 35°C.We will be camping each night to experience the stunning stars in the night sky and the traditional Berber cuisine.

Yet again, it is a privilege to be able to help children and families who so greatly need the care and kindness that the hospice provides in memory of my wonderful Dad.

Every donation is so gratefully received.

THANK YOU

Ali G
