Bertie's Buccaneers
Campaign by Muscular Dystrophy UK (RCN 205395 (England and Wales) - SC039445 (Scotland))
Bertie's Buccaneers was set up to fundraise for research into Ullrich congenital muscular dystrophy which Bertie was diagnosed with in 2014.

Story

Ali and Archie (her eldest son, aged 19) are training for the South West Coast 50 challenge. On Aug 2 they’re taking on 50km (31 miles) in one day to raise funds for research through Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Ali’s youngest son Bertie (aged 13) has muscular dystrophy - a rare, progressive muscle weakness condition that is currently without a cure.

This huge challenge takes place in their happy place of Exmoor. They’ve been holidaying here every summer since Bertie was a baby. Without a cure or medicine to slow or stop his condition progressing, each visit he has been able to do less and less due to his muscular dystrophy. As you can imagine, that is hard for Bertie and for his family who love him.

Thank you for supporting Ali & Archie’s ultra fundraiser 🧡

Muscles.

We use them to move.

Walk, eat, smile, cry.

Pump blood around our bodies.

To breathe in and out.

Our muscles matter.

By fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy UK, I’m helping to fund world-class research into effective treatments, and life changing support for the 110,000 people in the UK living with a muscle-wasting condition.

All donations and support are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
