Story

This August a team of us are going to be hiking 25 miles across the Trossachs for the Rob Roy challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The work that Macmillan do for their patients and their loved ones has touched us all and we want to show our appreciation and support through fundraising for them and spreading the word of the incredible work that they do for those suffering with Cancer.

In April 2022 I myself was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma at the age of 29.The shock of my diagnoisis and the fear of what was to come next was completely overwhelming. I was sent for biopsies, countless appointments, scans, and IVF treatment and then I was straight into 6 months of chemotherapy every two weeks. I went from being a fit and healthy young person to suddenly being a cancer patient.

During this time I was lucky to have an amazing support network around me of friends and family and of course the amazing NHS, Maggies and Macmillan Cancer Support. All of these organisations helped me get through my cancer journey and I cannot thank them enough. After months of grueling treatment on the 22nd of December 2022 I then recieved the best Christmas present I could ever ask for- I was finally cancer free.

Sadly my auntie Kaija was not as lucky. Kaija was diagnosed with lymphoma during her twenties - 30 years previous to me, but she sadly lost her life to cancer. She was training to be a doctor and I just know how much she cared about helping others. Her strength and courage kept me going through my treatment as well as my grandmother Siisi who I never got to meet as she lost her life to pancreatic cancer before I was born. I am so proud of them and in their memory, I want to fundraise for them and everyone else suffering with the effects of cancer.

On Sunday the 10th of August we are going to be hosting a Workout for Macmillan at Bruntsfield Links and we would love you all to join us! We will be hosting a 45 minute workout followed by a raffle with fabulous prizes to be won! We will also be hosting a bake sale and all funds raised will go to Macmillan cancer support. All tickets for the raffle can be bought on the day and so can our delicious bakes!

To join our Workout for Macmillan and to donate to the rob Roy challenge all we ask is for you to donate what you are able to our Just giving page. Your donation will then count as your entry into the workout. We recommend a £10 donation but if you are able to donate more then that is fantastic! If you can come in comfortable clothes for exercise and bring a mat if possible that would be brilliant. We will provide some mat’s but great if you can bring your own as numbers of mats will be limited.

Also If you have friends who want to come along on the day- the more the merrier! They can donate to macmillan via one of our donation buckets at the event or online to our just giving page for their entry on the day.

Macmillan really are the heroes of our communities and the work that they do helps to bring hope and support to those suffering with cancer everyday across the nation. Whether you have experienced cancer yourself or you have a loved one who is going through it we want to come together to show our support and raise as much money as possible. We hope you can join us on the day!

We are fundraising and hiking in memory of our family members Sisi and Kaija Burstall who both lost their lives to cancer, and who we miss everyday.
