Story
On March 1 2022 I’ll be 70! I know birthday fundraisers are two a penny (or penny farthing with Gift Aid) but I’ll work hard for your contributions.
I invite you to set me – and yourself – realistic targets in multiples of 70 to tackle in March. Any unit – distance, time, repetitions, words, bars of music, squares of chocolate – you name it. The wackier the better.
As a baseline I plan to row at least 70km on the Concept 2. What other challenge awaits?
Who benefits?
I’m raising funds for Eden Parkinson’s Support Group. We support people with Parkinson’s (PwPs) of all abilities, as well as their carers and families. We’re mostly centred around Penrith but Eden is a big district, with members spread out over rural areas.
What?
We subsidise a number of activities for our members. These include:
Exercise class: weekly physio-led exercises class suitable for PwPs of all abilities. As many of you know, I am near evangelical about the benefits of exercise for people with Parkinson’s.
Complementary therapies: to help mobilise and relieve the rigidity that is a common symptom of Parkinson’s.
Lunches: some of our members have become increasingly isolated during the COVID pandemic, and their symptoms have worsened. Some haven’t been able to connect with Zoom or FaceTime. We want to get everyone back together again safely in real life.
Newsletter: to keep in touch and signpost members to other services and activities in Eden.
However, reserves are running low – our opportunities for fundraising have been limited by COVID and we need your help to fill the tank for our 2022 activities.
