London Marathon 2025 - HEART UK - Alice's page

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
I've always wanted to tackle the challenge of a marathon and 2025 looks like it's the year I try it out. I'll be running for Heart UK - a charity that's close to my family. My grandpa, Simon Broome, died in 1977 when he was just 46, leaving my uncle, mum and aunt without a father and my grandma without a husband. He had familial hypercholesterolaemia which caused a heart attack at such a young age. Now, his name is listed on Heart UK's website, 'the Simon Broome Criteria' is used by medical professionals to help diagnose the condition.
It's also poignant that my grandpa on my dad's side sadly passed away this Spring 2024 of a heart attack, so it feels like I'll have both of these men with me round the 26.2 mile route.
Am so grateful for any donations, and any smiling faces around the route for those who can come to London on the day. I'll be very excited when it's all over!
From Heart UK:
Almost half of UK adults have raised cholesterol which can lead to heart disease. The funds you raise will help us to raise awareness of the dangers of high cholesterol throughout the UK; campaign for improved screening, identification, and treatment of people with raised cholesterol and help us support those diagnosed with either inherited or non-inherited high cholesterol and help reduce their risk of heart disease.
