Story
In August 2023, my Dad suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. In the early stages, doctors did not think he would survive.
Despite the odds, after two weeks Dad emerged from a coma and gradually phased through each stage of brain injury recovery, having to re-learn how to eat, talk, walk, read and write. The stage of post-traumatic amnesia lasted an excruciating eight months and sadly, many of Dad’s memories remain missing.
After three months in hospital and nine months in a specialist rehabilitation centre, Dad was able to return home. His recovery is ongoing and he is still improving each and every day, which is primarily down to his determination and fight, but also the incredible support he has received.
Throughout this journey, Headway has provided invaluable resources to guide and support us through this devastating time. Dad continues to attend a Headway rehabilitation centre twice a week, which provides physical rehabilitation, emotional support and companionship. Headway’s support has been truly immense; helping Dad to rebuild his confidence and adapt to life with acquired disabilities.
I would be hugely grateful for any donation, to ensure those like my Dad and our family are able to continue receiving Headway’s life changing support.
