Helping Rhinos is an international NGO. Our aim is to establish secure rhino strongholds through creation of innovative protection strategies, sustainable land management operations that ensure a rich, biodiverse ecosystem, and inspire local communities to proactively engage in rhino conservation.

Story

The FUTURE is in all of our hands.

The Bush Babies programme is currently supporting the education and development of more than 1200 young vibrant minds around Balule Reserve, in South Africa. This is a sister programme to the Black Mambas Anti-Poaching Unit, the world's first female anti-poaching unit - helping support a holistic view to stop wildlife crime and poaching - now, and into the future.

We are seeking to raise enough money to support the provision of a Bush Babies classroom, and development of sustainable energy and resources for the children to grow their own fruit and vegetables and become more self-sufficient.

100% of the donations will go to support the Bush Babies and nothing will be taken in administration or service costs; every single penny donated will go straight into the programme.

What better gift can we give, than access to immersive and inspiring education that will set this next generation up for success into the future.

A bit of background -

The Black Mambas APU, founded in 2012 by Transfrontier Africa, are the the world’s first female anti-poaching unit (APU) who work 24/7, 365 days a year to protect the wildlife of the Greater Kruger area, South Africa.

The Mambas are no ’normal’ anti-poaching unit. As well as patrolling, doing vehicle checks and anti-poaching snare sweeps across the landscape, they also run the ‘Bush Babies’, helping teach the children about nature, how to support their ecosystem, grow healthy food, and how to live side by side with the wildlife. This has been a game changer in the anti-poaching arena as it is helping to prevent the move towards crime and the need to poach, instead ensuring the local communities have access to good education and therefore more options for the future.

The Mambas all live in local villages and are proving the fight against poaching is more achievable through environmental education of children and communities, than with guns. The importance of protecting the earth’s biodiversity depends on teaching all the world’s children to stand against illegal wildlife destruction, empowering them to safeguard the world they’ll grow up in – before it’s too late.

How you can help.

In June, there will be a team of eight business women going out to Balule to focus on the development of their own resilience, and leadership, alongside the Mambas. As part of this trip, we want to support the Bush Babies in having access to a fantastic classroom and resources too. Can you help us?
