Story
In April 2026 I’ll be running the London Marathon to raise money for Retina UK, a charity that is very close to my heart.
In early 2024, I was unexpectedly diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) during a routine eye appointment. RP is a rare, inherited eye condition that causes gradual degeneration of the retina. It often starts with difficulty seeing in low light or loss of peripheral vision, and over time it can lead to significant sight loss. It affects around 1 in 4,000 people in the UK, and at present there is no cure.
Right now, my diagnosis isn’t affecting my day-to-day life – I can still do everything I could before. But knowing that my sight may deteriorate in the future has made me determined to do something positive.
I’m supporting Retina UK as they are the only UK charity dedicated to supporting people affected by inherited sight loss and funding pioneering research into treatments. They provide vital information, peer support, and resources to help people navigate the challenges of living with conditions like RP, while also investing in research that could one day lead to a cure.
Running 26.2 miles feels like a huge challenge but I’m ready to take it on! I’d be so grateful for your support in helping me raise funds for this incredible charity.
Thank you! X
