adidas Manchester Marathon 2026 · 19 April 2026 ·

We support the thousands of patients and families at Sheffield Children’s, from across the UK and beyond, by funding the life-changing and the joy-sparking. We make clinical care kinder, and bad days brighter. We bring play, laughter and comfort to places where they’re needed the most.

Story

I’ve chosen to take on this marathon in memory of two boys who hold a forever place in our hearts: Richard and Cillian 💙.

The care and kindness shown to our families by the amazing Sheffield children’s hospital during the hardest of times has never been forgotten.

Richard’s story is one that I have shared many times over the last 21 years and as my big brother he will always be a part of everything I do, always.

Cillian’s story had only just begun, and I’m so proud to call his parents my friends and to witness the courage, love and strength they have shown. Running for them, and for him, feels like the most meaningful way to honour both boys.

Charlotte & Paddy’s story:

In August 2025, we suddenly and unexpectedly lost our little boy, Cillian, when he had a cardiac arrest at home. Since then, we’ve learnt from doctors at Sheffield Children’s Hospital that Cillian’s death was heart related.

Cillian was a happy, healthy little boy. He loved running around, playing in the sand and visiting parks. He showed no signs of having an unhealthy heart, until it was too late. To be honest, this reality still feels completely shocking and it’s hard to comprehend that such a vital organ can be failing without any obvious signs or symptoms. It just goes to show, how important it is for people to have access to screening. This is something your donations can help with.

Sheffield Children’s Hospital have also been amazing, helping us to navigate this unexpected loss and we will forever be grateful for the staff who supported us on the day, and continue to do so. The paramedics, nurses and doctors who tried to save him; the nurses who held us whilst we cried; our key worker who patiently guides us through this time; the doctors who continue to do everything they can to give us more answers; the lovely lady in Rose Cottage, who sang to Cillian every day and dressed him in bright PJs covered in tractors.

We were and will always be heartbroken by this loss, but being able to raise awareness and fundraise for charities, such as CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and Sheffield Children’s Hospital, helps to give us a purpose and a focus whilst we find a way to rebuild our lives, whilst honouring and remembering Cilly.
