Alice Howells is raising money for CDG UK

AJ Bell Great Bristol Run Half Marathon 2026 · 10 May 2026 ·

Congential Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG) is an umbrella term for a very rare group of diseases that causes severe disability. There is no known treatment or cure. As the disease is so rare, there are very few children in the UK affected. CDG UK provides a support network and a patient voice.

Story

I will be running the Bristol half this year and thought it a great opportunity to raise some money for CDG UK.

My son, Fred, has PMM2 CDG, a rare genetic metabolic condition. This has caused many challenges for Fred such as speech delays and physical disability.

Being a parent of a child with a rare disease can be an extremely lonely experience. CDG UK are an amazing charity who connect families living with CDG as well as raise awareness and inform families about vital research.

By supporting my Bristol Half Marathon challenge, you’re helping families like mine feel less isolated and contributing to research that could change lives.

Every donation, no matter the size, makes a real difference. Thank you so much for supporting Fred and the wider CDG community.
