A huge thank you for all of the lovely messages I have received since finding out that my 5 year scans were clear.

For those who I don’t know, 5 years ago I was a diagnosed with primary bone cancer as a new mum. The main tumour was in my thigh bone, with small metastasis in my lungs. I spent most of the first years of my baby’s life at The Christie in Manchester, receiving chemotherapy. I also had the problem leg amputated above the knee.

Bertie had his last day in year 1 this week and it was yet another pinch me moment. I remember my desperation for a first day at school, just one nativity, just one sports day. I am so incredibly lucky to have had these 5 years and hopefully many more!

But for some, cancer and pregnancy is still very real. Only recently I lost a friend Sian Craft to breast cancer. Her cancer was misdiagnosed as mastitis in pregnancy. She leaves behind a beautiful little boy.

Mummy's Star is a charity who focus on raising awareness of cancer around pregnancy, educating healthcare professionals, advocating for consistent care, supporting those mums who are diagnosed, and being there for the families who sadly suffer the loss of a mother or their unborn child as a result of this cruel disease. They were there for me, for Sian and for many others.

So to celebrate my 5 years, we will be climbing the O2 arena to raise awareness and funds for Mummy’s Star. I am not entirely sure how hard this will be, but I’ve yet to find a challenge that I have not overcome! 🦿

Mummy's Star is the only charity in the UK and Ireland dedicated to supporting pregnancy through cancer and beyond. Your donation means that women diagnosed with any cancer during pregnancy or within a year of a birth are able to reach Mummy's Star and the specialised support they offer. They help families to meet others in a similar position, offer small grants to relieve some financial burden, give support to partners and the wider family, promote awareness and support research.
