Aquathon Swim and Run · 1 November 2026

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On November 1st, I’ll be taking part in the National Aquathon to raise money for Dementia UK, in memory of a very special lady, Jan Burkett.

I’ll also be thinking of my lovely mother-in-law, Krystyna, throughout the challenge.

Jan came to my dance/exercise classes for many years. She was such a kind, gentle person, and after every class she would always come over to thank me and have a little chat about her little dog, Teddy. Those little moments will always stay with me.

The Aquathon is a big challenge: a 100-length swim, a 10K run, then another 100-length swim all in one day!

Earlier this year, I badly injured my ribs in an accident and haven’t been able to swim for many months. But yesterday, I qualified for the National Aquathon, and I’m so honoured to be taking part for a cause that means so much to me and so many others.

Through my work as an entertainer doing 'Singalongs' in dementia care homes, I see how deeply dementia affects people and their families. It’s also something many people in my classes worry about. I’m doing this for everyone whose life has been touched by dementia, with much missed Jan and Krystyna especially close to my heart.

If you’re able to donate, any amount, however small, would mean so much and help support the work of Dementia UK.

Thank you all for your kindness and support xxx
