Age UK City of London works with isolated older people in the City, providing opportunities for physical activity, friendship, learning, social connection, and support with getting online - all helping people to maintain their independence, health, dignity, and enjoyment of life.

Story

We're raising money so we can continue to bring our seated exercise classes to isolated older people.

We estimate we need to raise £3000 to keep running our exercise classes for the next 5 months, while we look for longer-term funding solutions.

Our Chair Yoga class takes place on Zoom and is a weekly life-line for housebound older people, bringing the world to them, helping them to maintain good circulation, flexibility and balance, and ending with a cup of tea and a natter with friends.

"These online sessions help me to stay safer by keeping my joints moving and my spirit young - and all from the comfort of my armchair!" - Naomi, aged 94

Our weekly Zumba and Movement to Music classes provide valuable social connection as well as a host of benefits such as lower cholesterol, improved muscle strength, stamina, balance and co-ordination. The mood-boosting exercises help people to manage mental health, depression and anxiety, and are attended by some of the most disadvantaged communities in the heart of the City.

All of our classes ultimately support people to stay independent, reducing the need for care and hospital admission and helping people to live better for longer.

They centre friendship, wellbeing, laughter and making the most of later life whatever your circumstances.
