Story
In a few weeks, I'll be running the London Marathon to raise money for Transcend Sarcoma (commence nervous sweating).
Transcend is a charity that was founded by my friend Jack Holmes, who passed away in October 2024 after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Jack believed in the power of people coming together, showing up for each other, and having funnnn. Simply put I miss him and that energy he always carried with him.
Running 26.2 miles is my way of showing up for him, maybe for the first time in a while, showing up for myself too. Taking on this challenge has meant changing the way I think about myself and what I'm capable of. I find myself grateful to Jack for the kindness and encouragement he still somehow brings me every time I get myself out the door for another run.
If you'd like to support Transcend Sarcoma and the incredible work they do, any donation, no matter the size, means the world.
More About Transcend
Transcend Sarcoma’s founder Jack Holmes was diagnosed with stage 4 CIC::DUX Sarcoma at the age of 33 in November 2023 – a very rare type of Soft Tissue Sarcoma caused by a chromosomal translocation. Jack’s treatment options were limited to extension of life plans as no targeted treatment exists for this type of Sarcoma. Jack spent a lot of time investigating the world of Sarcoma once he’d been diagnosed, especially thanks to the support of the Sarcoma Pathology team at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. It was through this connection Jack was inspired to form a mechanism of raising money to fund research projects that would improve the outcomes of future patients of this type of disease. This is when Transcend Sarcoma was born.
Transcend aims to bring people together through music, movement, art and food with the creation of community at the heart of all its events.
