Cycle Sportive fundraiser for Aberdeen Samaritans

Alie Johnston is raising money for Aberdeen Samaritans

Cycle Sportive · 24 August 2025

We’re here for anyone who’s struggling to cope, who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure. In prisons, schools, hospitals and on the rail network, Samaritans are working with people who are going through a difficult time. Samaritans’ vision is that fewer people die by suicide.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, I really appreciate your support.

My name is Alie and I'm the fundraising lead for Aberdeen Samaritans, who have quietly been providing free, confidential emotional support from their base in Aberdeen for over 60 years.

Talking with Samaritans can be life-changing, and the team of local volunteers work round the clock to try to ensure that no plea for help goes unanswered. A well as a telephone and email service, Aberdeen Samaritans have an Outreach Team and a Prison Team to make a real difference in the community.

Although we are all volunteers, running the Aberdeen Samaritans branch costs money to recruit and train new volunteers amongst a host of other things. Without your help we would find it very difficult to keep our vital services going.

During 2024 our volunteers donated 7,200 hours to our listening service, delivered 1,505 listening shifts and took 18,656 calls. We reached out to the community at events and the Railway stations, offered support for 3 Listener schemes at HMP Grampian as part of our prison outreach programme, trained Prison Officers about suicide and mental health.

Thank you so much again,

Alie
