Story

My name is Megan, and Alix has been my very best friend since we were four and five years old. We’ve grown up side by side — through childhood, adulthood, motherhood, and everything life has thrown at us.

Alix is one of those people who gives without hesitation. She is kind, generous, and instinctively puts others first. She always goes out of her way to help others, often without anyone ever knowing. Now, she, her wife Carolyn, and their two beautiful boys are facing something no family should ever have to endure.

Alix’s leukaemia has relapsed, and she now needs a stem cell transplant. What comes next is a long and demanding road — treatment, recovery, and months of rebuilding strength, physically and emotionally.

When someone you love is going through something like this, the overwhelming feeling is helplessness. You want to fix it, take their place, or make it disappear entirely. But the reality is, you can’t.

What you can do is show up.

That’s why we’ve created Ali’s Army — 100 people taking on 100 challenges over 100 days, one for every day of stem cell recovery.

Those first 100 days after a transplant are critical. They can be isolating, exhausting, and frightening — a time where progress is slow, setbacks are common, and strength has to be found day by day. Each challenge represents one of those days and serves as a reminder to Alix that she is not facing them alone. That there is a whole army of people thinking of her, supporting her, and willing her on through recovery.

Every challenge is a small act of courage and solidarity — a way of helping to carry her through the days when it feels hardest.

We’re raising money for Maggie’s Centre Edinburgh, who provide vital emotional, psychological, and practical support to people living with cancer, and to the families who love them. Maggie’s offers warmth, calm, and understanding at moments when everything feels overwhelming — and all of it is free.

Every donation, message, and shared challenge means more than we can put into words. Thank you for being part of Ali’s Army, and for standing with Alix and her family during this incredibly difficult time.

We can’t do this for her.

But we can do it with her.
