Story
Hi everyone!
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page! Those of you who know me (especially from secondary school & university) will know that I've never been super physically active, and definitely never been a runner. Yet here I am, about to do my second half marathon! (The quarter life crisis hit quite hard). I've decided to do Hackney Half Marathon as an opportunity to fundraise for Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP).
For those who haven't heard of them, APP is a UK charity which supports parents and families affected by postpartum psychosis - a severe, but treatable, form of mental illness that occurs after having a baby and affects 1400 new mums in the UK each year.
The charity offers a range of services to support families and are currently campaigning to open more Mother and Baby Units. MBUs are specialist inpatient treatment centres where mothers with mental illnesses e.g postpartum psychosis are admitted for treatment along with their babies. Having worked in an MBU myself, I’ve seen many families go from incredibly stressful and terrifying situations, to becoming the family they dreamt of being, and saving countless women's lives. This is one of the many reasons I’ve chosen to fundraise for APP!
So to help promote the cause and add my bit towards APP's incredibly important work, I've decided to run 21.1km on some very dodgy knees. I hope you'll support the cause! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
