Story
As a group of family and friends we are walking 20 miles in memory of our dear dad, Philip Buckthorpe. We have chosen to raise money for the British Heart foundation because dad had an undiagnosed heart condition called dilated cardio myopathy which devastatingly resulted in his untimely death in April. This was largely due to a genetic condition called Haemochromatosis which caused damage to his heart over a number of years, before diagnosis.
In addition to this, our grandad, Arthur Buckthorpe, lived with a leaky valve caused by a childhood illness and our grandad, Edward Jones, passed away at the age of 48 from a heart attack due to lifestyle. Alison's son, George, was born with a congenital heart condition (interrupted aortic arch) and his heart was fully repaired when he was just 3 weeks old due to the incredible miracles that our heart surgeons can work. Andy's daughter, Lucy, was also born with a hole in her heart and this was repaired through Key hole surgery when she was 3.
We feel strongly about this cause as not only do the charity research cures but they also push to educate people in things such as saving lives through CPR and ways to look after your own heart health- prevention above cure. It is quite literally a cause very close to our hearts
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
