Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.

Story

In memory of my dad who we lost to a grade 4 Glioblastoma brain tumour aged 62.

He went from a fit and healthy man who had just started his retirement to suffering from severe headaches and a weakness on his right hand side which was initially thought to have been a stroke.

Shortly after we received the devastating news that he had a grade 4 Glioblastoma brain tumour. A glioblastoma is the most common and the worst high grade primary brain tumour in adults. Sadly, the prognosis is only 12-18 months.

We were fortunate to have 17 months with him but it was one of the hardest things my family have ever gone through. Throughout these months he endured an operation on his brain, several rounds of radiotherapy (where he had to wear a mask and then be bolted to a table) and chemotherapy. However following on from his treatment we managed to fulfil one of his wishes which was a trip to see family in Australia. We were very fortunate to be able to enjoy that trip with him even though at times he felt like he wasn't fit enough to participate.

Throughout his diagnosis he remained strong and courageous however ultimately it changed his character, took away his independence, ability to communicate and took away his life.

Life for some is far too short, live it and do what you want to do, don't wait as you never know what is around the next corner.

I hope that i am able to help raise awareness and funds to help families who are dealing with a brain tumour diagnosis. Your support can help to contribute to vital research and better outcomes for those facing this challenge.

One in three people in the UK knows someone affected by a brain tumour. This disease is indiscriminate; it can affect anyone at any age. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002.

Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this. It is the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. Help fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.
