Story
Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Kew) is a world-famous scientific organisation and charity, best known for our outstanding botanic gardens, collections and our scientific expertise in plant and fungal diversity, conservation, and sustainable development. Our funding supports and grows our vital work which spans across 110 countries and 440 institutions worldwide!
Our aspiration is to end the extinction crisis and help create a world where nature is protected, valued and managed sustainably. By donating and supporting our brilliant runners taking part in Kew the Run you will be actively making a change and contributing to our mission of understanding and protecting plants and fungi for the well-being of people and the future of all life on Earth.
My motivation:-
I am especially inspired to run for Kew after visiting the Milennium Seedbank, managed by Kew at Wakehurst Place. Here, 2.4 billion seeds from around the world are stored in sub-zero chambers below ground. This is the most diverse wild plant species genetic resource on earth.
This fits well with my vegetable plot, where I grow some Heritage varieties no longer available commercially, from seed distributed by Garden Organic.
